I love Caitlin Hunter’s patterns. I love the easy fit and the fun modern colourwork patterns.
Soldotna Crop is one of my favourites, although I lengthened the body and made the body into an A-line by changing needle sizes as I worked my way down the body section.
I also removed the Fairisle patterning on the body. This was because, as I was lengthening the body and adding some shaping to it, I wanted to make sure it was more fluid to give drape when being worn.
This was enormous fun to knit. I cast on the Soldotna in April 2019 and completed it on holiday in Northumberland in May 2019.
I really enjoyed knitting the colourwork yoke. None of the floats is overly long, making this project ideal as a first colourwork sweater.
I did consider knitting it as a long sleeve sweater, but in the end, opted to leave the sleeves short. It is nice worn over a long-sleeved tee-shirt.
I used 4 colours of Debbie Bliss Rialto DK to knit it. Colour 1 is 040 Violet; Colour 2 is 044 Aquamarine; Colour 3 is 046 Holly, and Colour 4 is 019 Sea Foam.
This is a beautiful 100% superwash merino wool that is really soft and drapes beautifully when the finished sweater is being worn.
I adore my Soldotna. It really is a perfect pattern and I love wearing it. It is perfect Spring or Autumn or to wear on a cool summer evening.
I made the 52″ size as I like my sweaters to have a relaxed fit when I’m wearing them.
We photographed me wearing my Soldotna on a visit with my mum to Mount Stewart on the edge of Strangford Lough. It has the most beautiful gardens to walk around and a lovely cafe where we enjoyed coffee and cake.
There is definitely space in every wardrobe for this attractive sweater. I’m tempted to try knitting a crop version of this sweater although not a very short cropped length. For the moment it remains on my Wish List!

Hi Nicolette,
I discovered your Mitred Square Blanket yesterday. I have almost finished my first four squares. I am totally ‘hooked’. Thank you so much for introducing me to this. I have been making single bed spreads for my great grandchildren (There are twelve of them). I try to make them all different, and this has just added to my repertoire.
I Love it ! Thank you again
Ann

Gosh, that is going to be a fun if mammoth undertaking. 12 single bed spreads – wow!
