Are you looking for the perfect sock pattern for your lovely ball of Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn?
I really enjoyed knitting this pattern. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and I will definitely knit So Simple Silk Garden Socks again.
If you are, So Simple Silk Garden Socks designed by Glenna C. is the perfect choice. Glenna C’s website Knitting to Stay Sane is wonderful.
The Pattern
Noro Silk Garden Sock has a fibre content of 40% lamb’s wool, 25% silk, 25% nylon and 10% kid mohair. I felt the yarn didn’t have quite as much stretch as many other sock yarns I have used. The wide rib patterning helps the sock fit beautifully. The asymmetrically positioned cable pattern adds an elegant touch.
Noro Silk Garden Sock
Noro is known for the wonderful vibrant colour schemes within the yarn. The colours gradually change and the bands of colour vary in length. Don’t expect the socks that you knit from this fabulous yarn to be identical to each other. The differences are part of the quirkiness of these rustic looking socks.
It is essential to wash and block this sock as the yarn feels a little stiff when you are knitting. After hand washing and conditioning the knitted fabric softens considerably. I dried the socks on the sock blockers.
Avoiding the Cast On ‘Jog’
To avoid this cast on one extra stitch than stated in the pattern. For this pattern the medium size required me to cast on 55 stitches so I cast on 56. As you work the first round of rib when you reach the last stitch, work the first and last stitch together. This helps prevent the “jog” that can spoil the cast on edge on your socks.
Would I Knit This Pattern Again?
The finished socks were knit in the medium size using Shade 84 of Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn that I bought from the Sock Yarn Shop a few months ago. I think it is the same colourway as the pair of socks shown in the photograph on the pattern although, this is just a coincidence.
I really enjoyed knitting this pattern. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and I will definitely knit So Simple Silk Garden Socks again.

Hi Nicolette, since finding your blog I have knitted dozens of pairs of socks – my extended family are all addicted. Your pattern was so easy to follow, I now always have socks on my needles.
I have been looking for a pattern for Noro for a couple of days now as my daughter has given me a ball of Silk Garden Sock. Could I ask you roughly what size you would say that Medium knits up as? Im looking for a UK size 4.
Many thanks.

How do I find the pattern? Revelry sends a message that it is the incorrect site.

Hi Kim. I’ve fixed the link to the So Simple Silk Garden Socks. Thanks for letting me know that it wasn’t working. Nicolette
Those are great. I’ll have to ask my mother to knit me a pair or two.
Very comfortable to wear.
