Description
Our beautiful hand dyed sock blanks are knitted using a single strand of 4ply sock yarn. They are hand dyed and painted to create gorgeous one of a kind colour creations.
This is the perfect choice for knitting shawls, hats and scarves or fraternal (not matching) socks. There are so many imaginative uses for these beautiful sock blanks.
If matching socks are important for you check out our Hand Dyed DK Sock Blanks!
A hand dyed sock blank is a machine knit rectangle of fabric. Begin knitting by unravelling the yarn from one end and cast on for your project or you can wind the blank into a ball of yarn first.
When you are knitting from a sock blank the yarn will have some crimp to it that makes your knitted fabric look a little uneven as you’re knitting your project. This relaxes and virtually disappears when you wet block your finished project and the knitted fabric evens out beautifully. I normally allow the garment to soak for at least 30 minutes to make sure the fabric is completely wet. Then block in your normal way.
The Hand Dyed Sock Blanks:
- are dyed and painted using professional grade acid dyes
- 4ply sock yarn
- 75% Superwash merino, 25% nylon
- 100g sock blank
- 425m
- Needle size: 2-3mm
- Care: Handwash or gentle machine wash at 30 deg Celsius.
Superwash wool is machine washable although if machine washing use a cool wool/delicates cycle and lay flat to dry. I personally choose to hand wash my hand knit items (apart from my hand knit socks which are washed in a cool wool cycle). Our hand dyed yarns are always rinsed well after the dyeing process but occasionally you may get some colour bleeding on the first wash particularly with darker colours.
