There is nothing so relaxing while on holiday than having a sock project to knit. For our last holiday in Brittany, I brought a couple of projects with me to knit. Hermione’s Everyday Socks was one of these projects.
I really loved knitting Hermione’s Everyday Socks designed by Erica Lueder. And, I’m actually surprised that I haven’t knit any other pairs of these socks. Hermione’s Everyday socks is a free knitting pattern on Ravelry.
I used a skein of Knitpicks Stroll Tonal sock yarn from deep stash. So the label with the name of the colour is long lost.
The only difference to the pattern was that I did my usual slip stitch heel flap and a dutch square heel turn rather than the modified eye of partridge heel flap and heel turn. I like how my usual heel turn fits and I often opt for the comfort that I know it will give when I’m wearing the socks.
I knit the toe and the texture pattern exactly as written in the pattern.
I’ve often found that knitting socks while on holiday is a really perfect project. It is small and light and easy to carry in hand luggage. It was also nice to knit a small project on a very warm day when I was sitting in the shade at the table chatting.
It was wonderful staying in my sister’s gite.
It was a fantastic place to enjoy time out and relax with my knitting while enjoying the view from Pip’s patio across her garden and the treetops.
There is nothing as wonderful as taking a leisurely walk from the house, along the canal to buy freshly baked bread from the Boulangerie…
On my early morning walks along the canal I’d often catch the fleeting flash of turquoise as a kingfisher dived into the canal.
Pip had a couple of beautiful David Austin roses climbing against the house and gite walls. Her patio was a beautiful place to sit in the evening while the perfume from the roses filled the warm air.

I hope you can help me, I am a novice sock knitter. Can you tell me How can I size down a sock pattern that only gives instructions for one size ( Hermiones everyday socks)

This is 100% one of my favorite sock patterns to do, along with your K3P1 socks. Just these two forever, methinks- they’re delightful! (Though, I’ll always try something new- it’s nice and chilly in the southern USA now, and I’m sporting my pair of Jawoll magic stripe socks with an afterthought heel, just like in your pattern-finally figured out the heel, and they fit just right.) 🙂

Hello. I have just printed off this pattern and can’t wait to knit them. They have gone on my ‘to do’ list. They look lovely. Thankyou. Just hope I can do them justice. I have knitted socks before but wouldn’t say I was an expert by any means.
