This is the first of the “Travels Down Memory Lane Series”. Over the last couple of years, there hasn’t been an opportunity for holidays away. So I decided to look at some of the posts I’d planned to write, and for various reasons, I hadn’t. There is nothing as much fun as taking a walk down memory lane and revisiting and sharing the photographs and journals from our travels.
In August 2016, we visited my sister Pip and her husband in Gouarec. We were taking my nieces home to Brittany and decided to combine the journey and enjoy a visit with Pip. It was the first time we’d been to Brittany since 2009.
We’d visited the Valley of the Saints. It was a very hot and dry day. The statues were extraordinary. It was the perfect day for ice cream! We wandered around in the baking heat, looking at the statues. I took photos, and Neil bought a guidebook so I could identify them later.
We stopped for burgers in Carhaix on our way back to Gourec, and as we drove through Carnoet, we saw the most amazing yarnbombing.
We parked the car near the church and decided to wander through the village to look at all their work. I was feeling tired, so Neil kindly took the photographs.
I don’t speak any French, so I’ve no idea what was being celebrated with the yarnbombing, but there was hardly a part of the village that didn’t have some element of it decorated with knitting and crochet.
The lamp posts were particularly beautifully done. A lot of work had been involved in decorating them this well.
It was extraordinary. There were decorative pieces tied to gates and fences.
Even the flowerpots at the front of the church had been covered with knitting. It was colourful and so much fun!
I'd love to hear from you. Let me know what you think...
