This is the 9th of the “Travels Down Memory Lane Series”. Over the last couple of years, there hasn’t been an opportunity for holidays away. So I decided to look at some of the posts I’d planned to write, and for various reasons, I hadn’t.
Nothing is as much fun as walking down memory lane and revisiting and sharing the photographs and journals from our travels.
We found the car park for Torc Falls full, so we drove to the car park to walk down to Dinis Cottage.
A lovely walk on a laneway to the cottage with a small slipway. The tearooms were closed. They close during winter; obviously, May was not the summer season yet!
We went back to Muckross House cafe to enjoy a delicious lunch. If you are in Co. Kerry, I’d recommend the cafe at Muckross House.
We ate there several times during the week.
Muckross House Gardens are beautiful.
We paused to smell the sweet scent of the Wisteria and looked at the fruit trees on the garden walls.
“Muckross Lake
The walk is a wonderful stroll through native forest, here and there the path visits the lake shore and the views of Torc Mountain and MacGillycuddy’s Reeks come into view. The road continues over the local landmark of Brickeen bridge where you can linger and look out over Lough Leane and Muckross Lake. Or continue for a few more minutes to Dinis Cottage, an old hunting lodge now a café. From here you can continue walking through the lakeshore and back to Muckross, or travel by boat back to Killarney.”
After lunch, we walked through the woodland, hugging the top of the rocky shoreline around Muckross Lake.
It was beautiful and peaceful.
We stopped a few times to sit and enjoy the sunshine!
We met very few people during our walk even though Muckross House and gardens were nearby.
