In 2020, I offered to knit my mum a sweater. I don’t often knit sweaters for other people as it involves measurements and sizing issues. So in June, I cast on the Goldwing Sweater for mum. The Goldwing Sweater is a beautiful design by Jenn Steingass. I really liked the sweater pattern when I first saw it released.

For the Love of Drachenfels Shawls
Now and then I come across a pattern that for whatever reason I fall in love with it. For me, Drachenfels is one of those patterns.
“Here be dragons, or so says the legend – though when you climb Drachenfels today you’ll find only the ruins of an ancient stronghold.
Stave off the chill wind with this cosy shawl, which pays homage to the dragon of lore with a slipped garter colorwork pattern that hints of scales.
It’s worked in garter stitch from tip to edge, then neatly finished with I-cord bind-off.” Melanie Berg, Designer
Of course, the designer had me planning my first project once dragons were mentioned in the name of this shawl pattern. I do love all things dragon-related and I loved everything about the Drachenfels Shawl the moment I saw it on Ravelry in 2014…[Read More]
Ballycarbery Castle, Kerry
This is the seventh of the “Travels Down Memory Lane Series”. Over the last couple of years, there hasn’t been an opportunity for holidays away. So I decided to look at some of the posts I’d planned to write, and for various reasons, I hadn’t.
Nothing is as much fun as walking down memory lane and revisiting and sharing the photographs and journals from our travels.[Read More]
Drachenfels Shawl No. 3
My third revisit to the Drachenfels pattern was to knit a replacement for Drachenfels Shawl No. 1 which was destroyed in my sister’s house fire.
It was a gift for Pip but took me 28 months to complete after she had chosen the yarns that she liked.[Read More]
Hermione’s Everyday Socks
There is nothing so relaxing while on holiday than having a sock project to knit. For our last holiday in Brittany, I brought a couple of projects with me to knit. Hermione’s Everyday Socks was one of these projects.
I really loved knitting Hermione’s Everyday Socks designed by Erica Lueder. And, I’m actually surprised that I haven’t knit any other pairs of these socks. Hermione’s Everyday socks is a free knitting pattern on Ravelry.[Read More]
Jarlshof, Shetland
This is the sixth of the “Travels Down Memory Lane Series”. Over the last couple of years, there hasn’t been an opportunity for holidays away. So I decided to look at some of the posts I’d planned to write, and for various reasons, I hadn’t.
Nothing is as much fun as walking down memory lane and revisiting and sharing the photographs and journals from our travels. A wonderful visit to Jarlshof, Shetland, on my 50th birthday![Read More]
Socktober 2021
It is the beginning of Socktober for 2021 and I’ve had a flying start! I’ve decided to turn all of my single socks into actual pairs of socks…
I find sometimes, that I really look forward to seeing how a new sock yarn will look when it is knitted up. But sometimes, such as for sending out my recent newsletter showcasing the beautiful WYS Signature 4ply Christmas sock yarn, I only required one sock of each Christmas sock yarn for the photography, so, now, I want to knit the 2nd for each pair. Then I’ll have a lovely selection of Christmas socks to wear during December! That will be just too much fun![Read More]
Washcloths and Dishcloths
Once upon a time, I’d look at a pattern for a dishcloth or washcloth and think, why would anyone want to knit a dishcloth? Don’t they have something more interesting that they’d like to knit?
Then, we had a pandemic and I found just watching the news became a stressful occupation. I needed something soothing to knit that didn’t require much thought. I found a couple of balls of Dishie that I’d ordered from Knitpicks a long time ago and I cast on a simple Gramma’s Dishcloth designed by PJ Allen. I ran out of Dishie.[Read More]
Soldotna
I love Caitlin Hunter’s patterns. I love the easy fit and the fun modern colourwork patterns.
Soldotna Crop is one of my favourites, although I lengthened the body and made the body into an A-line by changing needle sizes as I worked my way down the body section.[Read More]
Drachenfels Shawl No. 2
Drachenfels is a beautiful pattern designed by Melanie Berg. It is always tricky when you’ve knit the same shawl several times to know how to write about your thought processes without it becoming uninteresting for the person reading it! The second Drachenfels Shawl was completed this time using the luxurious Regia Premium Merino Yak sock yarn in autumnal colours.
For Drachenfels Shawl No. 2 I chose to use a yarn that was new to me at the time. After knitting the shawl, I brought the collection into the Yarn Shop as I loved knitting with it so much.[Read More]
